CTR (Choose the Right): COLOR

Color is intimidating! Even though it’s all around us, the thought of picking the perfect color often times scares some to the point of mental paralysis. For example, choosing the best paint color for your bedroom wall may NOT ever happen in your world, because you find it's such an overwhelming task. That’s where I can help you. I’ve always loved color. Some say I have a photographic memory (is that possible?) when it comes to remembering an exact color. Others marvel at my self confidence in selecting paint colors for my decorating projects. So how do you get to the point where you can choose the right color for your home décor?

Over the next week I will give you some fun ways to discover your color personality and style, give you tools for choosing colors, share the 2010 color forecast for home décor and show you some of my favorite “color” photos. So let’s start out with the basic of all color tutorials-the color wheel.

The first color wheel (a.k.a. color circle) has been traced back to Sir Isaac Newton, who in 1706 arranged red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet into a natural progression on a rotating disk. As the disk spins, the colors blur together so rapidly that the human eye sees white. Artists have been experimenting with colour wheels ever since, finding inspiration in everything from cocktail umbrellas, river rocks, autumn leaves, pencil shavings, to juggling. Your assignment: Look it over and decide what colors you like. Then go to your own closet to see what colors you choose to wear. Browse through magazines and find pictures of rooms that you like. Notice the colors used in the décor.

Color is all around us. Embrace a world where you use color every chance you get. Don’t let your walls stay white or beige- choose to put a splash of color in your life and see how it opens you up to many more wonderful emotions and experiences.
